Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch Ends Hold Out

Marshawn Lynch is done trying to get more money. That’s probably because trying to do so is actually costing him money. Per reports, the Seattle Seahawks star running back has accrued well over $450,000 in fines during his holdout, which is now expected to come to an end.

Lynch either could see the writing on the wall that the Seahawks weren’t going to budge on his demands for a new deal, or he just couldn’t afford to keep proving his point. Either way, the stud rusher is due back in Seattle’s training camp within the next 24 hours.

Lynch’s hold out lasted less than a week, but he did get some extra time to rest up and sit out some grueling training camp practices. It’s also possible by ending his holdout and returning to camp, Seattle could waive his fines as a showing of good faith.

While Lynch looks to be done pouting for now, that doesn’t mean he still doesn’t want a new deal. However, he’s actually being paid at solid market value (over $5 million in each of the next two seasons) and is a running back approaching 30 years of age. Naturally, it wouldn’t make a ton of sense for Seattle to upgrade his annual salary and put even more money into a position where they have a ton of depth.

The Seahawks surely want to roll with Lynch as their main guy as he rides his current deal out, but they do have two quality backups to turn to in Christine Michael and Robert Turbin. In fact, their mere presence was a huge reason the Seahawks felt so comfortable not budging on their stance. Having that kind of solid talent and depth elsewhere at Lynch’s position killed all of his leverage, effectively ending a battle of wits that really didn’t have much wit to begin with.

The end game here is the Seahawks remain very strong in the running game and that Lynch ending his holdout is great news for the team. Its welcomed news for an offense that has seen wide receiver Sidney Rice retire and tight end Anthony McCoy (Achilles) go down in the past week.
