Raiders Claim WR Greg Little Off Waivers

The Oakland Raiders just got a little more interesting on offense. Just one day after being released by the Cleveland Browns, wide receiver Greg Little was snatched up by Oakland off of waivers.

The Browns surprisingly released Little, a former second round draft pick, despite potentially facing an entire season without number one wide receiver, Josh Gordon. Initially a testament to Little’s struggles in three NFL seasons, the Raiders apparently see more in Little than Cleveland did, as they made him a part of their 2014 roster by picking him up.

While it was somewhat surprising to see Little let go by Cleveland, it’s not at all surprising to see the Raiders take the plunge and add him to their receiving corps. After all, Little comes in at a cheap $753,750 for 2014 and at the very worst brings solid competition to a group of wide receivers that could really use it.

Oakland already added former Green Bay Packers receiver James Jones in free agency, but still needed another receiver to pair with him and number one target, Denarius Moore. After not finding the right guy in the 2014 NFL Draft, Oakland jumped at the opportunity to grab up a talent like Little.

While Littler certainly hasn’t been a stalwart in his three NFL seasons, he still has ideal size and play-making ability for the position. In the right system, there’s still reason to believe Little could excel.

Whether or not that’s as a member of the Raiders remains to be seen, but Oakland’s moves during the offseason are slowly moving to a more competitive offense. With Matt Schaub under center thanks to a trade with the Houston Texans, the Raiders suddenly have a decent offensive lineup.

Oakland could have gotten a bigger steal in Little than many think, too, considering it’s difficult to assess just how good he can be. After all, he’s spent the last three years wasting away in Cleveland, attempting to catch passes from the likes of Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell.

While Little’s surroundings weren’t ideal in Cleveland, he still dug his own grave, as he dealt with drops and numerous mental errors throughout his three years with the Browns.
