Week 2 NFL Betting: Buccaneers Over Cardinals and 4 Upsets to Chase

More meaningful NFL betting arrives with week two rolling in this weekend, with a slew of Sunday games and one Monday night showdown to take advantage of. For the most part NFL bettors will want to play it safe in the second week of pro football action, seeing as week one was completely nuts. In that same breath, now may be the best time to capitalize on some underrated teams that enter the week with insane spreads or gaudy Money Lines.

You always need to pick your sports wisely, but if you’re in the mood to aim high with your week one pro football betting, we’ve got your back with four interesting underdogs. That doesn’t mean these teams will for sure win or even beat the spread, but of the big slate, they’re your best bet to stir things up and win you some serious cash. Let’s get to it:

Saints Over Giants

The Money Line is the NFL bet we’re looking for in this week two battle between the Saints and Giants (oh, and bet on the Over when it comes to the Total). The Saint (+175) don’t offer an insane payout, but they’re 0-1 and are undoubtedly going to want to win this intense road date with the Giants.

New York looks better defensively and may be just as good as the Saints on offense. It’s also worth noting that New Orleans historically struggles on the road, so it makes sense that betting sites like Bovada don’t favor them. That being said, they are going to be in a shootout that probably goes down to the wire, which might give them close to even odds of pulling this one out. That’s not a bad situation if you want to throw $100 down for a $175 payout.

49ers to Beat the Spread

This isn’t an upset, so much as a a bet on the spread, which currently favors the hometown Panthers (-14) by a considerably margin. It’s very possible that the Panthers take out their anger from a week one defeat on the Niners, but these massive spreads don’t always hold so strong. We saw that first hand last week, when Miami marched into Seattle and turned a +10 deficit into a 2-point loss.

Betting on the spread in favor of the Fins worked out quite well last week and it just might work with the Niners in week two. Blaine Gabbert is tough to watch, but let’s keep in mind that Carlos Hyde looked quite strong last week and the Niners defense as a whole may be a bit underrated. Carolina is still the favorite for a reason, but it’s possible the Niners grind it out enough to at least keep this closer than a full two touchdowns. They Money Line isn’t currently available, but if it’s a gaudy one, you could even roll the dice on the Niners, straight up. We’re not really vouching for that one, though.

Titans Over Lions

Tennessee lost a heartbreaker in week one, as they were beating the Vikings all day and then two bad turnovers led to defensive scores and suddenly a close win turned into a bad loss. That shows Tennessee’s youth and inexperience in close games, but perhaps they could get back on track against a Lions team that struggled defensively in week one.

Tennessee is on the road and does not have a very explosive offense, but this could be a good matchup for them and their defense actually played extremely well for all of their week one contest. If the defense shows up again this week and the Titans offense isn’t as shaky, an upset could exit. The Titans stroll in with a fun +220 Money Line to play with, which returns a solid $220 on a $100 bet.

Buccaneers Over Cardinals

If there is an upset pick you absolutely have to play this week, it’s the Bucs (+260) over the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona was a Super Bowl contender a year ago, but they didn’t look quite the same in a tough week one loss to a Patriots squad that didn’t even have Tom Brady or Rob Gronkowski.

While we’re all wondering if Arizona is set for regression, let’s also consider the rise of Tampa Bay, who marched into Atlanta last week and hung 31 points on the Falcons in a big divisional road win.

Jameis Winston tossed four scores and set the tone early – something he could very well do again in another huge road contest. Arizona badly needs to avoid an 0-2 hole at home, but what if the Bucs are destined to start off 2-0 on the road? The passing of the torch could come this week and we just might see the Buccaneers proclaim their place in the NFC. A mere $100 bet could make you look like a genius and also get a strong $260 back if Tampa Bay pulls it off.
