Injuries Level Bills’ Talented Running Back Out for the Season

Running back is seen as one of the Buffalo Bills’ greatest strengths, along with their stellar defensive line and rookie sensation Sammy Watkins.

Both the elusive C.J. Spiller and bruiser Fred Jackson could be workhorse starting backs on their own, and they make a fearsome duo in Buffalo. Unfortunately for the Bills, they will have to do without both their star RBs for at least one game, maybe more.

In Sunday’s game against Minnesota, Spiller broke off a 53-yard run and broke his collarbone at the end of the scramble. He is going to need surgery, which will put him out for three months, effectively ending his season. He could be a free agent next year if the Bills don’t exercise a 5th-year option, so this may have been Spiller’s last game as a Bill.

Jackson’s injury is less severe. The 33-year-old (ancient in running back years) Jackson pulled his groin during the first half of Sunday’s contest. He could miss as little as one week, and team doctors believe the worst case scenario is he will miss 4 weeks.

Bryce Brown and Anthony “Boobie” Dixon will shoulder the rushing load for the Bills in Spiller and Jackson’s absence.
